Standard 6: External Development Leadership
A school executive will design structures and processes that result in community engagement, support, and ownership. Acknowledging that schools no longer reflect but in fact build community, the leader proactively creates with staff opportunities for parents, community and business representatives to participate as “stockholders” in the school such that continued investments of resources and good will are not left to chance.

- This video shows some of the connections that I have made with agencies in the Tarboro Community.
- The leadership team created a series of presentations for our Academic Open House where teachers, parents, and students went over data, set learning goals, and participated in take home activities.
- Students and staff worked throughout the year to prepare for Stocks Elementary School's first Leadership Day as a Leader In Me School. Community leaders, business owners, media, and district representatives attended on April 22nd, 2016.
Special Education Forum
- I worked with fellow cohort members to plan a Special Education Forum that included a parent panel and district level panel to better prepare future school leaders for their role in the Special Education Process.
- I attended several BOE meetings as a Principal Resident in an effort to stay informed on federal, state, and district mandates and to have a voice in the decision-making process.
- As back-up test coordinator I have worked with the assistant principal and reading teacher to create benchmark testing plans that include accommodations for students that require them.
